The children have been learning about transportation and "things that go." Some of their favorite modes of transportation have been tractors, police cars, fire trucks, motorcycles, garbage trucks, and ice cream trucks. We also learned about boats and the children had an opportunity to engage in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) lesson to build their own boats out of aluminum foil.
After building their boats, students estimated (and practiced their counting, one-to-one correspondence, and number sense) how many tiles would fit in their boat before it sank in the water. The kids were so excited to test out their boats!
In our journals, we also wrote about and drew pictures of a fire truck. Afterwards, the students wrote thank you cards to fire fighters to thank them for their brave service in our community. The cards will be dropped off at our local Fire Station #20.
