Living Museum Poster Reviews

As part of the Living Museum project, the students completed biography posters. Each poster was magnificent! In class, the children will complete a poster review to study each others' posters to learn and take notes about their classmate's famous figures. The poster reviews also allow the students to write letters to their peers to compliment his/her work. We will begin this in class and then it will be completed through homework. The three poster reviews will be due Friday, March 1st.

Living Museum Grand Opening 2024

Our Living Museum was a success! The kids had so much fun transforming themselves into their famous character. The children were so proud to be able to present to fellow third graders, PK Little Buddies, 4th graders, and of course to our parents for the Grand Opening. This project will certainly be a favorite third grade memory for many of the students. The students impressively answered questions and remained in character for a solid 45 minutes before the museum's closing time (the kids were exhausted by the time we closed our museum)! I am so proud of each and every child!

The kids have worked so hard on this month-long project, and I'm sure that you were able to see their efforts as they practiced and prepared at home. Please tell your kids how proud you are of them.




Upcoming Valentine's Day

We will celebrate Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February 14th. As a common tradition, many students enjoy passing out valentine grams to their classmates (but it is most certainly not mandatory to pass out anything).

  • Students will pass out valentines on Wednesday, February 14th.

  • As of January 16th, we have 32 children (12 girls, 20 boys) in our class. Please do not fill in names in the "To:" field. ONLY fill in the "From:" field on each note with your child’s name.

  • Do NOT send candy/food grams.

  • Alternatives may include non-edible items such as stickers, pencils, erasers, temporary tattoos, simple handwritten notes, plain valentine cards, stamps, glow sticks, rings, mini puzzles, books, bookmarks, etc.

  • Here are a few sample items that make great valentine grams!

  • Lastly, I recently heard of a sweet idea that parents can choose to do. Write your child a surprise love note for him/her to find and read in their snack or lunch bags!

Living Museum Poster Samples

The students will receive their Living Museum Biography posters on Tuesday, February 6th. The posters are due Tuesday, February 20th. Students should have all areas completed and the poster should be fully colored and outlined. Here are some great examples from previous years. Students may choose to use their neatest handwriting to complete the poster, or as seen below, students may choose to type their responses and neatly cut and paste their responses. They may also print pictures rather than draw if they'd like.

 

Save the Date: Living Museum Project

Our class will be working on a month-long project called the Living Museum. Each student will pick a famous person to research, and bring that character to life! The famous person must be someone who has made a significant and positive impact to the world. Students will pretend to be their chosen famous person and speak about what their life had accomplished.

Optional famous people may include (but are not limited to):
Betty White, Bill Gates, Abigail Adams, Jackie Robinson, Babe Ruth, George Washington, Lucille Ball, Walt Disney, Leonardo Da Vinci, President Obama, Helen Keller, Betsy Ross, Roald Dahl, Albert Einstein, Jesus Christ, Clara Barton, Michael Jordan, Rosa Parks, Sacagawea, Kobe Bryant, Martin Luther King Jr., Cleopatra.

Please save the date, Friday, February 23 on your calendars! Our class will have our Living Museum Grand Opening this day from 1:10–1:45 pm and parents are invited to attend!

Parents: Attached is a parent letter for your reference (the preparation guide will be provided later). Please help your child manage their time wisely to stay on top of the work timeline. This is a large project for the students, and will require diligence throughout to complete. Each student has a manila envelope with the letter and a calendar to help keep them organized and on track.

All Living Museum materials (books, notes, articles, etc.) should be kept in the envelope and brought to school daily. 

 

Big/Little Buddies

Our third graders had a chance to meet their Pre-Kindergarten (PK) Little Buddies from Mrs. Ruiz’s class for the first time today. All of the PK-ers and third graders were so excited. Each Big and Little Buddy pair sat together to complete a mini interview form so they could get to know one another. They asked one another about names, ages, favorite food, animals, color, etc. Mrs. Ruiz and I were so impressed today. Every child was  engaged and attentive. The third graders displayed extraordinary kindness, compassion, and affection towards their Kindergarten buddies. Some even naturally knelt down so their Little Buddies could see them better. Others used softer tones in their voices when speaking to their Little Buddies. It was fantastic to observe, and I am so proud of our Room 14 third graders!
