Year-long Supply Donations

Throughout the year, we have multiple special events and holiday celebrations that need various supply donations. Please take a look at the Sign Up Genius list, and sign up for any item that your family might be able to help with. Items can be sent in by the specified date. The Sign Up Genius website will also send you a reminder a few days before the due date. All items are greatly appreciated, though please do not feel obligated to donate. If you have any questions, please email me. Thank you so very much!

Homework Routines

For some students, homework is an easy task and they are willing to complete their assignments on time and with great care. For other students, homework is a chore, not only for them, but for their parents as well. In third grade, the homework should take about 45 minutes. But it is 45 minutes of focused work. For some students, various distractions and work habits occasionally extend the homework time. The third grade teachers do not want homework to be a source of great stress for our families. If your child reaches 45 minutes and a point of frustration, parents are able to put an end to the homework- simply write the teacher a note indicating how much was attempted (i.e. Mrs. Dyer, we completed the front side of the math page, but only did the evens on the back). The child will receive full credit for the homework. Here are some other tips to help make the homework routine a little easier.

  • Set up a specific place for your child to do homework consistently each day.

  • Be sure the homework desk has all necessary materials (pencils, crayons, colored pencils, pens, glue, scissors, etc.) so that the child does not need to look for supplies around the house.

  • Play some peaceful, instrumental music in the background if that works for your child (music can help muffle other sounds around the house like dogs, cooking, siblings, etc.)

  • Set a timer for your child to see how much time they have left before a transition (i.e. going to soccer practice).

  • Remove distractions such as games, toys, computers, etc. from the homework space.

  • Set up parent restrictions on iPads, iPhones, etc. to limit the student's use to only homework-related resources (i.e. Raz-Kids, ST Math, TenMarks, etc.)

  • Have your child check in with you every 20 minutes or so to show you what they have completed (a timer can help with this).

  • Keep all binders, books, and backpacks in the same place everyday so that morning routines are quick allowing the family to get out the door quickly before school.

  • Break up homework routines with quick body/movement breaks (i.e. work for 20 minutes, then do 20 jumping jacks to get some wiggles out, then return to work).

  • Start with the hardest assignments first, then finish with the easiest assignments.

  • Front load some of the work earlier in the week (i.e. if the child has a 2 hour swim practice on Thursday afternoon, do some of the extra reading on Wednesday night instead).

My SchoolBucks

MySchoolBucks is a website that will allow our Woodbury parents to make classroom supply fund donations, field trip donations, and yearbook purchases.

Sign up for an account for your family and add your student's name to update account funds. This is an easy way for parents to complete school funds online, but if you prefer cash and check methods, those will still be accepted as well.

The suggested 3rd grade supplies donation is $17. Donations can be made online, and are optional.

First Day of School

Today was a great first day of school! The kids did a great job practicing first time listening, showing compassion and cooperation towards others, and exhibiting respect. We learned a few facts about Mrs. Dyer, took a school tour, and completed a first day of school writing page. Tomorrow will be another day of fun! Remember— Thursday, 7/17 and Friday, 7/18 are both early-out days. Dismissal is at 1:17 PM.

Picture Day!

Classroom Sneak Peek 2024

Welcome to Mrs. Dyer’s third grade class! School starts Wednesday, July 17th! Every teacher has been on campus and busy preparing for the new school year and I am so excited to meet every one of my new students. The third grade teachers have many great things planned for this year and we can't wait to get started. I'm sure students and parents alike are anxious to see the new classrooms and so... here's a sneak peek at Room 14!

I can't wait to meet all of my new students Wednesday morning! All of your desks, chairs, folders, and books are all here waiting for you! Be sure to double-check the aerial photo to know where to line up first thing Wednesday morning! Our class lines up near the basketball courts! Look for a light aqua colored balloon tied to a chair!

Math Games

Thanks to parent donations, our class has access to games like Adsumudi — a mental math game, sets of Jenga blocks, and to decks of cards that can be used to figure out equations utilizing addition and subtraction, and for some students— multiplication! In class, we played Addition War using standard decks of cards, which is a game that students could easily play at home if families have cards as well! We also played a multiplication game called Circles and Stars using simple dice! With the Jenga blocks, the kids got to know one another by answer questions corresponding to each block!

Thanksgiving Holiday

lets give thanks

Wednesday, November 27th through Friday, November 29th is Thanksgiving Holiday. The school will be closed. Please enjoy this time with your family and be reminded of all that we have to be thankful for.

I am personally thankful for my amazing family, friends, and coworkers. I am also thankful to have this opportunity to teach such a wonderful group of third graders. I feel so blessed.

Today, your child took home a handmade turkey bag. Inside are notes written by your children; they are notes about people and/or things they are thankful for. Please enjoy them together as a family. :0)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
