California Regions

As part of our social studies unit, the students learned about the four main California regions- coast, valley, desert, and mountain. Students read through unit lessons, took notes, and are working to create beautiful flip books showcasing the four California regions.

Students should have all notes on the inside completed, then use the directed drawing video to draw each of the covers for the four regions. All pictures should be fully colored and fully outlined. Samples are below.

Third Grade Flipbook

During the first week of third grade, the students worked on a flipbook. It was a great project to kick off the new year. The kids did such an amazing job on them. They are all so colorful and well-done.

First Week of School

This week has been such a whirlwind! In just a few short days, I have already fallen in love with my new students, and I am just in awe of how polite and well-mannered they are. The students consistently use polite words such as "please" and "thank you." They are helpful, thoughtful, and respectful. Room 14's parents should be proud.

This website is designed to give parents a "window into the classroom." My hope is that it helps solve the dilemma that many parents face when they ask their child, "So what did you do in school today?" And the child's only response is a lackluster, "I don't know" or "Nothing." I will post many updates and pictures of what the children are specifically learning in class so that parents are aware of what occurs in the classroom.

Here are a few snapshots of what occurred this week so far.

Music Class

Our primary music teacher is Ms. Courter. She is a talented music educator with a beautiful singing voice and it is easy to see she enjoys her job. The kids loved learning the new songs. This year, students are so lucky because they get to now have music occurs EVERY week in comparison to previous years that was every other week. Room 14 will have music on Mondays after PE.

Ice Cream Social

I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM. WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!
Join us for our annual Ice Cream Social on Thursday, August 1st 4-6 pm! Mingle over individually wrapped ice cream bars distributed by your Woodbury Staff.  Every Woodbury student will receive a free ice cream, courtesy of the PTA. There will be music and food trucks, as well as a snacks stand to support our 6th grade fundraising.

The Ice Cream Social starts at 4:00 pm at the school playground.

Parent Volunteers Sign-Up Form

Truly, our Woodbury teachers greatly value our parent volunteers. We just simply couldn't do it all without your help. Volunteers save us hours of filing, copying, grading, laminating, cutting, gluing, folding, etcetera, so that we can focus our time and energy towards planning and teaching.

Additionally, our volunteers that work directly with the students during small group rotations make such a powerful impact on student learning. You may never realize how much of a difference you make, but your dedication certainly shows through the students' academic growth.

Please consider signing up to be a parent volunteer online by Friday, August 4th. The children love seeing their parents on campus. If there are multiple volunteers from one family (i.e. both mom and dad; dad and grandma, etc.), please fill out the form for each individual to account for each volunteer's availability.

With a grateful heart, Mrs. Dyer
