Duolingo Math

I highly recommend the Duolingo Math app, which can be used on an iPad or an iPhone device. It is fun, engaging, interactive, and tactile— focusing on the exact math standards that students will work on during their third grade school year. The app is FREE and easy to use. Students should aim to practice the multiplication and division programs first. Commit to completing at least one golden circle each day (which would equate to three rounds of brief practice). As our math curriculum moves into various topics, students can scroll to practice matching concepts such as fractions, telling time, quadrilaterals, etc.

Per the Duolingo Math app information:

Why Duolingo Math?

• Learn by doing, not viewing. Math is usually taught with textbooks, videos and lectures. But, math is a lot more fun when you can touch it, break it into pieces, and move it around. This is the new way to learn math.

• Enjoy all the best features of Duolingo, but for math. After a decade of developing the world's most popular language learning app, we know how to make learning fun. Start your 10-day streak learning math now, and you'll thank yourself later.

• Train your brain with something that's actually useful. Brain training apps and sudoku can be a good mental challenge, but they aren't helping you develop a valuable skill. Improving your mental math skills with Duolingo Math will come in handy all the time.

What does Duolingo Math teach?

• Elementary math, including topics like multiplication, addition, and fractions for students

• Everyday math skills for adults to exercise their brains

Join the PTA!

Please consider joining and donating to our PTA! Our class is hoping to be the top placement for the grade level to earn a popsicle party! Our PTA President this year is Mrs. Morales— who is amazing, and even helps to lead our third graders with small groups every week! Visit www.woodburypta.org for more information.

The PTA Website is a great way to stay connected with all of the exciting things that are taking place at our school!  On the website, there will be a main information page, calendar of events, and other important information/documents pertaining to the PTA. The exciting part is that when you register, you will be able to buy spirit wear, make your pledge & membership donations, sign up for volunteer opportunities for each event, and will be sent our monthly newsletters or emails directly from the website. It is a one stop shop!  So don't wait, register today!

Parent Volunteers Sign-Up Form

Truly, our Woodbury teachers greatly value our parent volunteers. We just simply couldn't do it all without your help. Volunteers save us hours of filing, copying, grading, laminating, cutting, gluing, folding, etcetera, so that we can focus our time and energy towards planning and teaching.

Additionally, our volunteers that work directly with the students during small group rotations make such a powerful impact on student learning. You may never realize how much of a difference you make, but your dedication certainly shows through the students' academic growth.

Please consider signing up to be a parent volunteer online by August 1st. The children love seeing their parents on campus. If there are multiple volunteers from one family (i.e. both mom and dad; dad and grandma, etc.), please fill out the form for each individual to account for each volunteer's availability.

With a grateful heart, Mrs. Dyer

First Day of School

Today was a great first day of school! The kids did a great job practicing first time listening, showing compassion and cooperation towards others, and exhibiting respect. We learned a few facts about Mrs. Dyer, took a school tour, and completed a first day of school writing page. Tomorrow will be another day of fun! Remember— Wednesday, 7/23, Thursday, 7/24 and Friday, 7/25 are all early-out days. Dismissal is at 1:17 PM.

My SchoolBucks

MySchoolBucks is a website that will allow our Woodbury parents to make classroom supply fund donations, field trip donations, and yearbook purchases.

Sign up for an account for your family and add your student's name to update account funds. This is an easy way for parents to complete school funds online, but if you prefer cash and check methods, those will still be accepted as well.

The suggested 3rd grade supplies donation is $20. Donations can be made online, and are optional.
