Math Facts Practice and Testing

In third grade, your student is expected to master their multiplication and division facts 0-10. We will complete multiplication and division assessments in the following order: 10, 5, 2, 4, 8, 3, 6, 9, 7, (11, 12). *11s and 12s are not required for third grade, but are used as a challenge for students who are ready and have completed previous levels.

Students will take fluency assessments weekly (see picture below). Assessments have 20 multiplication equations on one side and 20 division equations on the other side. Students are given 3-minutes for each side to complete. When assessments are graded, they will be returned to the student with a sticker indicating if the child has passed the level, or if the student needs to keep practicing. Students will progress at their own pace. It is expected that students study their Math Facts regularly.

The flashcards can be downloaded and printed at home. You may want to use thicker paper to prevent seeing through the flash card. You may also choose to print them on a single side of the paper and then glue the printed flash cards onto index cards. It is up to you and your child.

Duolingo Math

I highly recommend the Duolingo Math app, which can be used on an iPad or an iPhone device. It is fun, engaging, interactive, and tactile— focusing on the exact math standards that students will work on during their third grade school year. The app is FREE and easy to use. Students should aim to practice the multiplication and division programs first. Commit to completing at least one golden circle each day (which would equate to three rounds of brief practice). As our math curriculum moves into various topics, students can scroll to practice matching concepts such as fractions, telling time, quadrilaterals, etc.

Khan Academy

Khan Academy has standards-aligned practice and lessons that covers math K-12. This wonderful resource has lessons, videos, quizzes, and practice that is free for all learners and teachers. We will use this resource in class during lessons and occasionally for homework. Every student has an account.

Multiplication.com

If your child is having trouble with his/her multiplication facts, he/she may be interested in trying the math games on the Multiplication.com website. Many students who have tried it so far have loved playing, and it has boosted their skills and their confidence in math.

Readworks.org

ReadWorks is driven by cognitive science research and has free content, curriculum, and tools to power teaching and learning from Kindergarten to 12th Grade. Every student has an account, and we will utilize this resource in class and occasionally for homework assignments.

EPIC: A Digital Library

Epic is a digital reading platform—built on a collection of 40,000+ popular, high-quality books from 250+ of the world’s best publishers—that safely fuels curiosity and reading confidence for kids 12 and under.

Students have access to Epic in class and will be able to use their Chromebooks in class to read countless digital books (headphones are recommended).

First Day of School

Today was a great first day of school! The kids did a great job practicing first time listening, showing compassion and cooperation towards others, and exhibiting respect. We learned a few facts about Mrs. Dyer, took a school tour, and completed a first day of school writing page. Tomorrow will be another day of fun!

Classroom Sneak Peek 2026

Welcome to Mrs. Dyer’s third grade class! School starts Monday, July 20th! Every teacher has been on campus and busy preparing for the new school year and I am so excited to meet every one of my new students. The third grade teachers have many great things planned for this year and we can't wait to get started. I'm sure students and parents alike are anxious to see the new classrooms and so... here's a sneak peek at Room 14!

Sign Up for Conferences Online

Conferences can be conducted virtually over Zoom or in-person. Conference appointment times will be available on:

  • Saturday, August 29th

  • Monday, August 31st

I am making Saturday conference slots available to help accommodate our parents who work full-time and cannot easily step away for a mid-day / mid-week meeting (please be aware that this is only an accommodation that I happen to offer; it is not an accommodation that the whole school or other teachers might be able to offer if you have children in other grade levels). 

We will discuss your child's strengths and areas of focus, and together, create a plan for your child's success. Please choose the time that works best for you and click on "Sign Up."

PLEASE be on time to your assigned date/time. Missing your conference slot or arriving late can impact the rest of the day's schedule for other families, and it is very difficult to reschedule.

Xtra Math

XtraMath is a web program designed to help kids master their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. Students will be encouraged to practice their math facts frequently at home in order to know all multiplication and division math facts with automaticity (within 3 seconds) by the end of the school year. The sooner the kids master their math facts, the sooner and more comfortable they will be with solving complex math problems in class and during homework.

All families were provided a parent letter with an enrollment code for their child. Students should log in to XtraMath at home to practice. We will also log in and use the program in class.

The program begins with a placement assessment. Once placement is done, each day a student signs into XtraMath they start off with a two minute Progress Quiz to check what progress they’ve made. Students do not take more than one progress quiz a day. The mastery score and fluency matrix reflect this progress.

XtraMath sessions are short — about 10 minutes or less — and are ideally intended to be done once a day. A typical session consists of a few quiz and practice activities, each lasting about two minutes.
